Day 7: Friday, September 20

Up at 8:30 this morning. Karen had prepared the usual awesome breakfast for us.

We didn’t do much today as we wanted to take a bit of a rest before tackling the Rocky Mountains, which was to be the next phase of our trip. No pictures today – sorry! 🙁

After lunch, Vince and I went to the town of Sylvan Lake:

There, we visited my brother Ivan and sister-in-law Carol. They had very recently retired from farming and moved into a beautiful new home in idyllic Sylvan Lake (Sylvan is about 25km west of Red Deer). We all had a good visit and left after about an hour, returning to Karen and Gerald’s place.

After supper, Vince and I went to Mark’s Work Wearhouse in Southpoint Common in Red Deer so that Vince could buy a new jacket; he needed something heavier for our upcoming visit to the mountains. After leaving Southpoint Common we drove to the Parkland Mall on the north side to find a store I had seen last year which sold a huge selection of dragons and fantasy creatures. We looked around the mall and finally found the store (“Classic Gifts”). Didn’t buy anything but it was fun to look.

We returned to Karen & Gerald’s place and spent the rest of the evening visiting with them and Norma. We called it a day around 10:00PM and went off to bed.
