Exploring San Francisco
The day started out cloudy. I had breakfast at Lori’s Diner at Powell and Sutter Streets…

…then went back to hotel for my camera and other daypack essentials. I took shots of the Grant Hotel exterior and of Powell Street. Getting my directional bearings, I walked down Powell Street to Union Square and got some shots:

I visited Virgin Records at Stockton and Market Streets to look around, then went to the San Francisco Visitor’s Centre on the corner of Market and Powell Streets to buy a 3-day MUNI (San Francisco transit system) pass for $18.00:

Looked at camera bags in camera store at Market and Powell, then went over to Westfield San Francisco Centre (shopping mall) at Powell and Market Streets for a bit of shopping. Bought travel bag for camera at a shop called “Going In Style” in Westfield Mall.
I had lunch at Burger King at Powell and Market, then went back to the hotel for a short pit stop. The sun suddenly came out and the sky stayed clear for the remainder of the day.
I walked down to Union Square at about 2:00 p.m. to catch the Hop On-Hop Off tour bus. On the bus, I toured the city for the remainder of the afternoon and, in usual tour bus style, saw many of the major sights at a breakneck pace (tour ticket is good for 48 hours with this tour company – “San Francisco Open Top Sightseeing”):

I finished the “Full Circle” tour at about 5:30 p.m. and went back to the hotel to regroup. After a short rest I took the vintage Market Street streetcar “F” out to the Castro, where I shopped at Streetlight Records on Market Street near Castro Street. I also stopped in to Medium Rare Records a little further down Market Street and bought a couple of hard-to-find dance CDs which are not available in Canada. Momentarily shopped out, I went down into Castro Street and had dinner at the Cove Cafe… love this place!
After a very pleasurable dinner I walked, cruised and shopped all through the Castro; I bought a t-shirt at a store called Chaps (Castro & 18th St.). Later, I got on the subway to head back to the hotel. Getting off at the Powell stop, I took a cable car up Powell Street to the Grant Hotel.
Off to bed… what a day this had been!
